JR not mystery Raw GM

Jim Ross today denied, via his blog, that he is the mystery GM on RAW. Which means… there’s still a chance he is, of course. But not likely.

One doesn’t need new vga cables to see that most WWE mysteries like this are usually resolved in a much more disappointing way than the speculation that surrounds them surmises; just like when “Who Is the Higher Power” mystery was revealed to be… Vinnie Mac himself, which everyone pretty much guessed would be the safe route to go.

Oh well… it’s probably Steph this time…

McMahon promising to write himself out?

It’s a song-and-dance as old as log beds, but a new interview with Vince McMahon in the Connecticut Post this week has the WWE’s owner claiming that he wants to fade his Mr. McMahon character out over time. Apparently now that he’s retirement age, Vinnie Mac is not as interested as being in the spotlight or even in the ring, as he once was.

Sure, he’ll probably never withdraw completely as long as he draws breath, and that’s fine. But it’s nice to hear McMahon talking about “developing new, young faces” who can become the future of the company.

Of course, behind the scenes we all know that Stephanie McMahon Levesque is the future of the company, a point made ever more clear at the start of 2010 when her brother Shane left his duties in WWE to go off and do his own thing. That has turned out, so far, to be an investment in International Sports Management (ISM), a small sports agency that manages some cricket and golf stars in Europe.

D’Lo’s return is only OK

After a five year absence from a WWE ring, D’Lo Brown finally returned to Monday Night Raw last week. Hold your enthusiasm, please. I know, I know, it’s not like The Rock has come back, nor even Chyna…. D’Lo Brown, at his best, was a slightly-above-average midlist wrestler.

But hey, he looked clean, fresh and energetic in a feel-good return match against Santino Marella and maybe he’ll even have a chance to get a bit of a push this time ’round. You never know, stranger things have happened… like Stephanie McMahon wearing religious jewelry.

Paternity Theory #3: Triple-H is Vince’s son

In reality, we know Triple-H is Vince’s son in law. He married Steph after a storyline brought the couple in close proximity to each other several years ago. Hunter and Steph recently had their first child.

Having Triple-H be the “son” of Vince is a payoff that makes a lot of sense, from a business perspective. For one thing, it would reaffirm Helmsley’s entrenched status in WWE. With Vince’s daughter as his wife and a storyline that makes him Vinnie’s son, he has too much tying him to WWE for him to ever again bolt from WWE to a rival promotion.

HHH is already family, so he can be trusted more than most. Plus, it would provide a certain “ick!” factor to the storyline, an element Vinnie-Mac seems prone to favor over years and years and years of RAW broadcasts.

Trouble is, the “incest” aspect of this – even though fictional – might leave some viewers squeamish. While chances that HHH being the bastard son of Vince are high, it’s not a lead-pipe cinch, either. I mean, the thought of HHH and Steph being brother and sister after having a kid together, even though it’s fictional, is enough to make most viewers wet their padded panty in disgust.

Who’s Your Baby, Vince?

OK, in reality, we know that Triple H and Stephanie McMahon are husband and wife, initially drawn together by an in-ring fictional story that cast them as a couple. Now they have their first child and no one questions it.

But the new storyline in the McMahon Family Saga is that Vince fathered an illegitimate child in the past and he or she is now the “missing McMahon,” who’s probably pretty pissed off about missing out on the chance to share bunk beds with Steph and Shane, Vinny Mac’s two real-life kids.

Is this tacky? Sure. But is it better and safer than a fictional murder storyline when a real-life WWE superstar committed a double-murder then took his own life?

You bet.
